FAQ - Tax Slips

What is the "Refresh" button used for in the different tax slips?

If modifications were made to pay slips or adjustments for slips that have already been initialized, the Refresh button allows you to regenerate the tax slips including the corrections.

Can we view tax slips from previous years?

Yes, provided that the slips for those years were produced using EVO. Slips produced by SigaFinance Classic cannot be viewed in EVO. In those cases, you must view the generated PDF files.

Last year I sent my Summaries by electronic file. Do I need to request preparer numbers again for this year's summaries?

Federally, no transmitter number is required. All employers can, if they wish, produce an electronic file and transmit it to the CRA. For the RL-1 Summary (and RL-1 slips), employers must request a transmitter number during the first year of electronic filing. The same number is used from year to year. If the user entered their transmitter number in EVO last year, the information is retained for subsequent years. It is suggested to reset the numbers for RL-1 slips (paper and electronic) via Settings / Employers. As of January 1, 2024, employers with more than 5 RL-1 slips MUST request a TN (if not already done) and electronically transmit the RL-1 slips to the Ministère du Revenu.

What is the "Add supplementary RL-1 or T4" button used for?

For certain employees, an additional slip can be completed. If more than 6 custom boxes are required, the supplementary slip will be added.

Are electronic files sent automatically to the government from the EVO software?

No. The user must log in to the government platform(s) to transmit the electronic file(s).

Last year, following an audit, I received a notice of assessment to adjust QPP contributions. Are the calculations in the EVO software accurate?

Yes, they are accurate. However, additional payrolls may affect the calculation and distribution of granted exemptions and, consequently, employee contributions. It is suggested to check the results by employee BEFORE producing tax slips

I would like to check my slips before printing them. Can I print a "draft" version?

It is not possible to print draft slips. As soon as the slips are printed, they CANNOT BE MODIFIED! However, the "Generate Excel List" function allows users to check the results by employee and by box.

I sent the XML file to the governments and have not received a confirmation from them. Should I contact them?

For more details on the transmission and processing of electronic files, it is best to consult the following page for Revenu Québec: and this page for the Canada Revenue Agency:

I produced the slips for the current year and have not yet transmitted them to employees and governments. There are corrections to be made. How should I go about this?

You must contact SIGA Customer Service so a technician can access the computer and authorize the reset of tax slips.

Where should I mail the summaries and tax slips?

The slips must be sent to the regional Tax Centre. To find the addresses, simply consult the relevant government websites.

I employed foreign workers. Are there any special requirements for their tax slips?

All workers (local or foreign) must receive their tax slips to file their income tax return. However, for foreign workers, certain boxes must be completed:
•Private health insurance: T4 box 85 and Relevé 1 box 235
•T4 box 29: if the employee meets the criteria established by the government. For more details on box 29, consult the Employer's Guide or the following link:

I am using a multi-company version. I want to generate my slips in XML format for several companies. Do I need to request a Transmitter Number for each company?

A Transmitter Number can be used for multiple companies. However, it is important that the sequence numbers are unique for each company. You must plan for a sufficient number of slips based on the number of employees in a year.
